Few members of Congress have had their personal and romantic relationships talked about more than Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. From one sordid affair to another, the woman seems to be anything but a selfless civil servant. And now parties are coming forward to prove more than just allegations of such affairs.
The most recent conversations surrounded her seemingly ongoing affair with political consultant Tim Mynett, whom she was paying to travel throughout the country with her. Both Omar and Mynett were married at the time their relationship began and since it has become rather public knowledge, both have also received a divorce.
And while this type of relationship is certainly looked down upon, it’s far from the worst the “devout” Muslim has done.
Some have long since thought that the Somalian born lawmaker actually married her biological brother so that he could gain citizenship and attend college here in the US. If that were so, Omar could be found guilty of multiple types of fraud including but not limited to marriage fraud, immigration fraud, tax evasion, and more. So naturally, she has denied such allegations.
But the facts have always seemed to point in that direction, and now someone from her past has spoken out confirming our suspicions.
According to the Daily Mail, Abdihakim Osman claims that Ahmed Elmi, her first (or is it second husband), was, in fact, her brother. Osman says that he has known both Omar and her other husband and the father of her children Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi for some time. He noted that the two were married in a traditional Muslim ceremony in 2002, which was not legally binding.
Years later, in the late 2000s, Osman says Elmi came into the picture spending a great deal of time with Omar and her family, including her then-husband, Hirsi. When asked about who Elmi was, both Omar and Hirsi always claimed that Elmi was her brother.
Osman told the Daily Mail, “He was very feminine in the way he dressed – he would wear light lipstick and pink clothes and very, very, short shorts in the summer. People started whispering about him. (Hirsi) and Ilhan both told me it was Ilhan’s brother and he had been living in London but he was mixing with what were seen as bad influences that the family did not like. So they sent him to Minneapolis as ‘rehab.’”
But as it turns out, they sent him to get married. Court and the marriage license show that Omar and Elmi were legally married in 2009, not long after Elmi arrived in the United States. Osman said that no one in their community knew anything about it until many years later. It was kept a secret.
Osman reported, “No one knew there had been a wedding until the media turned up the marriage certificate years later.”
Furthermore, the records show that the person who married Omar and her brother was a Christian minister. Osman said that the two, who were, in fact, practicing Muslims, would have no reason to use a Christian ceremony unless they didn’t want people in their Muslim/Somalian community finding out and that such a minister would not know the two enough to know they were related.
Osman said that shortly after Elmi arrived, Omar began to talk about needing to get “papers” together for her brother so that he could stay here and attend school.
“She said she needed to get papers for her brother to go to school. We all thought she was just getting papers together to allow him to stay in this country. Once they had the papers, they could apply for student loans.”
And apply they certainly did. Both Omar and Elmi were accepted to North Dakota State University in Fargo, where they both moved to. When Omar finished her degree and then a fellowship at the University of North Dakota in 2017, she filed for a divorce from Elmi who had already finished school and moved back to London.
Coincidence? I think not.
This left her legally allowed to marry the father of her children, Hirsi, in a civil ceremony. But to the community and Osman, Hirsi and Omar were never really apart. That is until 2019 when she had her cross-country affair with Mynett.
So if Hirsi wasn’t ok with Omar being with Mynett, why was he okay with her moving to Fargo and staying with Elmi? It only makes sense that he would be just as unhappy unless Elmi was Omar’s brother.
