Times are tough just about everywhere, with everyone being affected in one form or another. And the homeless are no exception. Large metropolises like San Francisco, which has a vast amount of homeless, have taken efforts to make these people are also cared for and kept in quarantine when necessary by providing some 965 of them with hotel rooms to stay in.
Dr. Grant Colfax from the cities Department of Public Health says this is an effort to support citizens no matter where life finds them.
“With regard to supporting people who are at risk, or who need to in quarantine or isolation because they’re COVID positive, our focus needs to be on supporting them. Meeting them where they are so that they can be cared for in the most appropriate way. In the way that’s good for them and for our community.”
But as one social media user who identifies as a “former homeless addict,” free hotel rooms are not all that the city is suppling for its quarantined homeless community.
A user, known only as “T Wolf,” wrote on Friday, “I just found out that homeless placed in hotels in SF are being delivered Alcohol, Weed, and Methadone because they identified as an addict/alcoholic for FREE.” The user then went on to condemn the cities actions. “You’re supposed to be offering treatment. This is enabling and is wrong on many levels.”
And indeed, it is. Or would be if it could be proven true. But who in their right mind would admit to such a wild accusation? I mean suppling known addicts with substances that only further their reliance? It’s absolutely outrageous.
Surely, no one, especially the city, would be so cruel.
But before anyone could deny it, the city’s Department of Public Health itself commented on the post, only confirming the allegations and defending the cities decision.
Their comment mentioned that these substances are being given to help those who are addicts from going through withdrawal and to better keep them occupied while they are forced to be quarantined in isolation.
The SFDPH wrote, “These harm reduction based practices, which are not unique to San Francisco, and are not paid for with taxpayer money, help guests successfully complete isolation and quarantine and have significant individual and public health benefits in the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Now, I have no doubt that free booze, weed, and whatever other substances they claim to be addicted to “help” with isolation and quarantine. But where in the world do they get the idea that this actually “helps” them to recover? As T Wolf rightfully says, it is enabling and wrong. Period.
It is a known fact that when someone is addicted to any substance, whether it is tobacco, alcohol, and certainly illegal drugs, supplying those people with their weaknesses only makes the problem worse.
There is no respectable end to this “solution.” What will people learn? Surely not how to provide for themselves or get clean. Instead, they have discovered that if they claim to be something, in this case, an addict, whether they are or not, and whine enough about it, they will get what they ask for.
And in return, the liberal government gets a few months of minimal criminal behavior on their streets due to the homeless and an entire community who is now essentially in their pocket.
Furthermore, it is an outright lie that these “harm reduction practices” aren’t being paid for with taxpayer dollars. This is the San Francisco Department of Public Health for crying out loud. Everything they and the rest of the city government does is paid for with taxpayer money in some form or another.
No, it might not directly come out of the city’s coffers, but you can be damned sure that the city paid for it somehow. Someone is getting to paid get the substances and deliver them. Even if that person is paying for it out of their own pocket, they work for a city program that is at its core funded by taxpayers.
Not to mention that a state-owned government is now facilitating the delivery and use of drugs that are illegal under federal law.
You’d think with all of San Francisco’s crime and drug problems, city officials would know better than to exacerbate the issues. But Nancy Pelosi taught them well, nothing really matters except for the amount of money they can get out of it.
