Trump Claims Victory with Mexico Deal

This past weekend President Trump dropped his plan to impose tariffs on Mexico in the number of billions of dollars if they failed to come up with a plan to help with the flow of asylum seekers. Mexico had made an agreement with the United States to strengthen the measures needed to help with the problem.

The President said, “The tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended.”

Mexico plans to send 6,000 troops to their southern border in order to stop the flow of people traveling through their country towards the United States. People from Central America would be required to seek asylum in Mexico if they are to pass through on their way to America.

Right now, the people are passing right through Mexico and pressing against the southern border of the United States.

Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrand, stated, “I think it’s a fair balance, because they had more drastic measures proposed at the start, and we agreed to some middle point.”

The United States is committed to helping Central American people develop a better way of life and to help improve their way of living. Even though during the meeting no plan of action was proposed as a way to make it all happen.

The deal included on part of the United States that it will expand the principle that migrants will have to remain in Mexico until their applicable application for entry can be dealt with. Officials have stated, “This means that those crossing the U.S. southern border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to Mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims.”

This is a program that Mexico has agreed with and so far about 10,000 people have been sent back to await an answer to their application. Even though this program is about to be expanded, the deal that the President would like to see is far from a reality.

The program has been contested in court by critics as they claim that it is not necessary and unfair to the people.

The deal with Mexico really is a win for the President as he has sought to overhaul the current immigration laws. The surge of people crossing the border have been a source of frustration for the President as many of his attempts to solve the issue have been challenged by the Democrats.

They have refused to help with the issue and do not want to provide the President with what he needs to solve the problem. For some, it seems like they want the credit for solving the problem and are not concerned with how it affects other people.

The threat of tariffs has worked. The thought of having to pay more for goods that only help your country has a way of motivating people to action. Matt Wolking, who is Trump’s campaign spokesman has stated, “There is only one elected representative of the people who can take credit for changing Mexico’s behavior. And he did it with virtually the entire Washington establishment fighting against him.

Many of the President’s allies praised him for the victory. The idea of tariffs was making some people nervous as they felt it could ruin the economy. The President has also been criticized for the actions he has taken from people that would never congratulate him on a win.

Major Democratic leaders seem only to find the negative regarding the successes the President is currently making.

The President has even fired back at the liberal media at their bad reporting of what actually took place at the meeting. The President stated that “Mexico will try very hard, and if they do that, this will be a very successful agreement for both the United States and Mexico.”

Mexico knows that the tariffs would have been bad for them as a country. It was the motivator that brought them to the table to help consider a problem that an ally was having.

They have the power to help solve the problem and be a part of a solution that is bigger than themselves.
