The looting seems to be nonstop over the past several days. Rioters want to rip apart cities to show their anger for what happened to George Floyd. However, as protesters announced the call to loot a Target in Brooklyn, organizers decided that hitting the popular store was not okay.
It’s funny how protective some people can be. Looting entire cities are okay but don’t touch my Target.
With some people moving forward to protect the Target, though, it’s encouraging. Perhaps there’s some good still left in the world.
Many stores are choosing to close temporarily until things go back to normal. Although this is happening across the country, many of them are located in Minnesota. The Target in Brooklyn has chosen to close temporarily, too, since it was on the hit list to be looted.
One of the protesters that were there to prevent the looters thought that they could be undercover NYPD detectives there to make the demonstrators look bad. What? Even when there is a peaceful demonstration, there’s always that one person or one group that has to make it worse. NYPD has said that they were not behind it.
Further, Target has seen a significant amount of damage from looting in the past week, not counting the event in Brooklyn. It’s why so many of the stores around the country are choosing to close for a little while. Their employees and their inventory need to be protected – and there aren’t going to be good Samaritans available to stand in front of every Target around the nation.
Maybe it’s the “right-wing conservatives” making the black protests look bad.
That’s one theory that’s going around. According to some of the protest organizers, it’s not the “black and brown folk” responsible for antagonizing the police. Many are quick to blame white people for throwing everything from water bottles to urine at the police. It’s when the police finally snap and start to tear gas everyone.
Is that what’s really going on, though?
There are plenty of videos out there to say otherwise. Often, it’s the white people who are looking to stop the looters and rioters. While there are always going to be those who want to riot for the sake of rioting, that’s not specific to one color. There are also YouTubers who are using these opportunities as a way to get noticed – and they’re the ones that are making it bad for both sides.
George Floyd wouldn’t have wanted this. He wouldn’t have wanted to see people fighting in the streets. Black-owned businesses have been broken into and looted by black people. There have been countless videos showing the footage.
Target seems to be feeling quite the brunt of the looting, and it’s because they’re based in Minnesota. If the killing of George Floyd or another individual had occurred in Seattle, it would likely be the Starbucks feeling the brunt of the looting.
While Target was quickly protected in Brooklyn, what about all of the other locations? What about all of the cities being torn apart and burned to the ground as people are angry about the racist killing that occurred? How does that help anything?
The looting continues, but who is doing the looting? It isn’t solely YouTube stars looking for some extra airtime. It isn’t undercover cops looking to start something. It also isn’t solely the “right-wing conservatives.”
What happened is horrible. It has identified that racism in the United States is still alive and well. However, if black people want to stop racism, they have to stop the looting. They have to work with everyone else to create a viable solution.
Right now, there’s a lot of blaming. There’s a lot of pointing the middle finger. The one thing that everyone can agree on, so it seems, is that Target should not be a target. Cities are okay, but please don’t touch Target.
